WE, the members of the Pennsylvania Land Title Association,
BELIEVING that land is the foundation upon which the very existence of our nation is secured, and out of which the wealth of our nation and its industries and its people ultimately flows; and
BELIEVING that the policy of our nation, expressed through its laws, is wisely dedicated to promote the free alienation and widespread private ownership of land toward sharing and increasing the benefits of the ownership of land; and
BELIEVING that the existence, welfare and prosperity of our nation, its industries and its people will be served by promoting best uses of land and the accurate, expeditious and secure alienation of land and interest therein;
DECLARE our purpose to be the refinement of the science of land title evidencing and conveyancing; and
PLEDGE to our nation, its industries and people whom we serve and to each other as co-workers and competitors:
THAT we will establish and maintain a reputation of honesty and integrity, standing sponsor for our industry, its operation and its ideals;
THAT we will extend our efforts and support to the promotion of legislation designated to further the public good within the areas of our activities;
THAT we will, before issuing abstracts and reports of land titles, binders for and policies of land title insurance, make reasonable searches and investigations and cause learned examinations thereof to be made with regard to the rights and needs of our applicants as well as of third parties affected by our determination;
THAT we will circumscribe our efforts only by rules of law and good practice toward providing and improving service upon which transactions can be closed promptly with technical accuracy and broadest insurance coverage consonant with sound underwriting;
THAT we will so conduct our business, refraining from any unfair or deceptive acts or practices, as to ever provide that stability and security requisite to the welfare of those whom we have served, observing the worth and originality of the work of others and their rights of authorship, pursuing our competition by advancing the merits of our respective efforts.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF we have in convention assembled adopted and directed our proper officers to, on our behalf, sign and seal this Code of Ethics on the Fourth day of June, 1963. |
